United Master Executive Council Negotiating Committee

Ken Diaz

Master Executive Council President

Ken Diaz began his airline career in 1983 with People Express Airlines working in the Accounting Department and as a Flight Attendant. He continued his Flight Attendant career with Continental Airlines and Carnival Airlines just before being hired with United Airlines in June of 1998. Shortly after 9/11 Ken became involved in lobbying Congress for mandatory Security Training for Flight Attendants. He became Government Affairs Chairperson for Newark, Council 6 shortly thereafter. He went on to become the Grievance Chairperson, as well as being elected the Local Executive Council 6 Secretary of Newark in 2005.

  • After United made the decision to close the Newark domicile, Ken transferred to JFK. Ken then became trained as an EAP Representative and Occupational/Benefits Committee Member. In February 2008, Ken was elected as Local Executive Council President for Council 5 and was elected for his second term of office in 2011.

Ken’s deep-seated passion for the rights and advocacy of his Union Brothers and Sisters found him compelled to further serve the Membership by seeking election to the office of United MEC President in May of 2014. After his successful election as our MEC President, Ken continues serving the Membership in his third term as our United Master Executive Council President and additionally serves on the AFA International Organizing and Ethical Practices Committees.

Ken was a Member of our 2012 -2016 Negotiating Committee who successfully negotiated our Flight Attendant Agreement during Expedited Negotiations.

Greg Davidowitch

United Negotiating Committee Chairperson

A hard-working AFA-CWA activist from New York, Greg has been a Flight Attendant since 1988. He loves flying and continues to enjoy exploring on his layovers with his flying partners.

Greg has enjoyed the unanimous support of his peers on numerous occasions, including his election to our current Negotiating Committee. He is expert in various types of negotiations including Interest Based Bargaining and traditional collective bargaining.

  • Greg is known as an activist and reformer, having served as an AFA EAP representative, LEC Secretary-Treasurer, Local Council President and MEC President. He has attended most Union-offered trainings and has been a member of numerous Union Committees, including Negotiations Policy, Ethical Practices and Organizing.

Early in his career, he served as the liaison and representative on various task teams at United Airlines, including the reorganization of the Crew desk and scheduling departments. Greg pioneered efforts to secure domestic partner benefits. Throughout his career, he has fought for and won improvements in work rules, including significant improvements for reserve, legal rest, grievance handling, job security and compensation.

As Local Council President for United in New York City, Greg faced the greatest tragedy to our members on 9/11 with leadership and a gentle shoulder for grieving Flight Attendants.

Seven months later, his peers on the United MEC elected him as MEC President, where he would continue to face daunting challenges as United was soon in bankruptcy and United Members were under assault from management.

Greg led a team of negotiators who beat back management’s most onerous proposals and when the executives eliminated Flight Attendant pensions, Greg negotiated an alternate retirement plan that cost management double what they planned to pay. Greg faced corporate greed head-on, filing objections that cut executive bonuses and stock bonuses by more than half and ultimately winning on a “Say on Pay” proposal at United. The New York Times Sunday edition featured this fight on corporate greed, and PBS Frontline, hosted by Pulitzer Prize winner Hedrick Smith, featured interviews with Greg on the fight to preserve retiree healthcare. His persistent work on Capitol Hill, including testimony before Congress on a number of important matters such as job security and retirement protections, gave voice for Flight Attendants on bankruptcy reform.

Recognizing the critical importance of contract negotiations, he has always been a source for detailed strategic plans, and passionately believes in the fact that negotiations require the commitment and courage to fight for our Members’ priorities. Greg is the veteran of many negotiations, and has earned the reputation as a fighter, and as a tough and militant negotiator, always standing up and fighting for our Members’ interests.

Jack Kande

United MEC Negotiating Committee

After working at another major US airline, Jack emerged as a leader among our ranks even as early as his initial training at United in 1995. In less than a year from graduation, Jack was elected by his peers to serve as their Local Council President in Hong Kong.  After serving two terms as President of the Local Council, Jack decided to take a break from a Union leadership role, but having the Flight Attendants’ best interest at heart, he continued to serve the Membership by volunteering on the AFA Grievance Committee, the Safety Health and Security Committee, and the Occupational Benefits Committee, along with serving as our acting AFA Strike Coordinator.

  • With encouragement from his Flying Partners, Jack once again ran for Local President in Hong Kong and inspired the highest voter turnout ever for Local Elections across the system, even though he ran unopposed.

Members throughout the system who have flown with Jack are often impressed with his ability to tackle domestic legalities, Reserve assignment issues and the devotion of his personal time spent explaining a wide range of our contractual benefits to anyone seeking information.

In addition to Jack’s countless hours of Union volunteer work, he is commended for his service as an Officer in the United States Army Reserves. Jack’s background is steeped with International Flight Attendant Negotiations experience, and he also has a background education as an economist. Jack is well-respected by his peers and is an iconic Unionist for his demands for justice and commitment in resolving every issue for the benefit of Flight Attendants.

His reputation as a person of deep integrity and concern for the fair treatment of all Flight Attendants is particularly well-reflected in the following quote:“To me there is no difference between junior/senior, lineholder/reserve or domestic/international issues – there are only issues important to all Flight Attendants. I look forward to working with all of my colleagues to achieve the best Contract in the industry.”

Jack gathered further experience by serving as the United MEC Negotiating Committee Chairperson for our 2012-2016 Contract.

Adam has been elected to a variety of positions in our Union over his career including Safety, Health and Security Committee Chairperson, Local Executive Council President, Master Executive Council President, and a Negotiations Committee Member during his time at Air Wisconsin.

  • Adam served once again as a Safety, Health and Security Committee Chairperson at pre-merger Continental. His deep knowledge and Union experience led to his appointment as the Negotiations Support Coordinator, a role he fulfilled during the Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement (JCBA) Negotiations.

In 2016, Adam was elected to the United Master Executive Council, where he is currently serving as our MEC Vice President. As our Contract Negotiating Committee is gearing up for the rapidly approaching 2021 contract negotiations with the company, Adam will once again utilize his incalculable experience as our 2021 Negotiations Support Coordinator.

John Morse

Attorney/AFA Associate General Council

A graduate of Villanova University and Gonzaga University School of Law, John initially began working for AFA in 2012 as an intern in Government Affairs, but quickly moved to the legal department upon passing the bar exam.

His tenacious nature has been on full display since his days at Gonzaga University, where he excelled as a negotiations champion, served as Captain of the Labor and Employment Law Moot Court Team, and was inducted into the Moot Court Honors Council.

  • John brings voluminous experience to the table, having played a major role in four different contract negotiations and is immeasurably valuable to our 2021 Contract negotiations. A great example of John's contract negotiation acumen was when he served as chief spokesperson in contract talks with Silver Airways. The agreement that was hammered-out by John and his team passed with a whopping 100% approval from the Membership!

In 2016, John successfully litigated a case in Federal District Court on behalf of the Flight Attendants of Hawaiian Airlines. He personally argued the case and cowrote the brief, resulting in the magistrate's decision to grant the Union's motion for summary judgment, and enforcing an important arbitration award that John and his co-counsel had previously won before the System Board.

Additionally, John has skillfully guided many Flight Attendants cases through the arbitration and mediation processes, gaining reinstatement of employment for dozens of Flight Attendants

Simply put, John's expertise and record of achievement are a tremendous asset to our 2021 Contract Negotiating Committee. We are extremely fortunate and honored to have someone with such vast experience and legal expertise working alongside us.
