After working at another major US airline, Jack emerged as a leader among our ranks even as early as his initial training at United in 1995. In less than a year from graduation, Jack was elected by his peers to serve as their Local Council President in Hong Kong. After serving two terms as President of the Local Council, Jack decided to take a break from a Union leadership role, but having the Flight Attendants’ best interest at heart, he continued to serve the Membership by volunteering on the AFA Grievance Committee, the Safety Health and Security Committee, and the Occupational Benefits Committee, along with serving as our acting AFA Strike Coordinator.
With encouragement from his Flying Partners, Jack once again ran for Local President in Hong Kong and inspired the highest voter turnout ever for Local Elections across the system, even though he ran unopposed.
Members throughout the system who have flown with Jack are often impressed with his ability to tackle domestic legalities, Reserve assignment issues and the devotion of his personal time spent explaining a wide range of our contractual benefits to anyone seeking information.
In addition to Jack’s countless hours of Union volunteer work, he is commended for his service as an Officer in the United States Army Reserves. Jack’s background is steeped with International Flight Attendant Negotiations experience, and he also has a background education as an economist. Jack is well-respected by his peers and is an iconic Unionist for his demands for justice and commitment in resolving every issue for the benefit of Flight Attendants.
His reputation as a person of deep integrity and concern for the fair treatment of all Flight Attendants is particularly well-reflected in the following quote:“To me there is no difference between junior/senior, lineholder/reserve or domestic/international issues – there are only issues important to all Flight Attendants. I look forward to working with all of my colleagues to achieve the best Contract in the industry.”
Jack gathered further experience by serving as the United MEC Negotiating Committee Chairperson for our 2012-2016 Contract.
